Built by the third mughal Shah Jahan in loving memory of his third wife who died in childbirth - They were married for 19 years and she was pregnant for 17 of those years. They had 14 children , of which 7 survived to adulthood. 20,000 skilled workers and craftmen took 22 years to build the
Taj.. 1632- 1653.

Ironically Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his youngest son for the last 9 years of his life. All but 9 terrible months of that time were within view of his beloved Taj Mahal .
