The New York Times travel section Jan 16 2011 published an article on how good the birding is in India, verifying my amazment at the variety and number of birds I saw while there.
A side twist to the non-mechanized farming practices is the benefit to the bird life. Nesting birds do not have their homes or habitat destroyed by combined harvesters instead those tending the land save the nests and direct water buffalo around the birds habitat.
Camp Chhatra Sagar Nimaj, between Agra and Jaipur, where I was at Bharatpur, is a great stopping point both for birding and a visit to a local community.
