The Alpina Gstaad

It's been a long time since the arrival of a new hotel in Switzerland has caused such a stir. Gstaad, a long time playground for the rich and famous now has a hotel  to keep attracting those that made this area famous.

The Alpina Gstaad  has a touch of all that anyone would want.  A rich chalet experience with international  flair, goat throws, a Swiss stuebli fondue and raclette  restaurant, cuban cigar bars, Japanese Megu restaurant  and an Asian Six Senses spa.

Of particular appeal is that cars arrive at the hotel in an underground passage maintaining the tranquility of the region.  However I read a report that out of a daily charge  there is also a bar credit of USD350.00 . I've looked for this on many reservation centers and as yet haven't been able to verify it.  May be it's appropriate on one particular date; nevertheless the mind boggles at the thought of being able to drink that amount of liquor and still ski the next day . ....but then it could be the perfect excuse to pop that world class bottle of champagne .

Trivia about my beautiful Switzerland.

* One of the world's best Jazz festivals is held in July in Montreux?
* The Basle/Basel/Bale (depending on the language) Christmas market starts November 22.
*  Basle has 40 museums within 400 sq ft of each other.
*  St Moritz is an affordable ski destination - a ski pass when staying at one of 100 hotels is only 27.00 per person per day
* You can see Europes highest mountain, Mont Blanc  from Geneva.
*  Lucerne in Switzerland  is  the most visited city by Americans.

....and ....
 most importantly
Sir Richard Branson has opened a dream ski lodge hotel in my favorite ski destination ....

Route de Lavaux - Switzerland

As a Mom in Switzerland, my young children started their lives in the little village of Lutry, just outside  Lausanne on the edge of Lake Geneva.

This year the Lavaux Express is celebrating it's 10th anniversary. We used to hike this area, stop for an apperitif, absorb the beauty, gaze across to the Aiguille du midi of the French Alps and you can too. You too can take this local train on wheels and enjoy some grand cru wine tasting along the way.  It runs from April to October till the 'vendage' is over.
